You may have noticed we're bringing back some special requests as of late. There are a few reasons for this; the first is that we have a hard time saying no to you lovely people, and the second is that with spring on it’s way, we start to shift our focus towards seasonal eating. We spent a lot of time last year building some great relationships with local farmers and producers, and have already been working towards building some new ones before the growing season really begins.
So as the produce grows and the seasons change, our menus will change accordingly, putting our money where our (and by extension your) mouths are. You’ll want to stay tuned as that gets going, but in the meantime we’re going to treat this as a last call for special requests. If there’s a box that you loved, or a type of food that you’ve been waiting for us to tackle, speak now so we can schedule it in before we’re hit with more farm fresh produce than we can even handle.
With that out of the way, it’s back to Greece. We have a few Greek food die-hards that couldn’t seem to get enough of this particular meal. This is a Greek feast with a traditional handmade moussaka as its centre-point. Get it while you can.
Layers of phyllo pastry, carefully brushed with olive oil and layered with spinach, crumbled feta cheese, onions, garlic, lemon zest, fresh herbs, and spices. Oven baked to a well flaked perfection.
Ground beef and lamb, carefully folded into a fresh tomato sauce, layered with roasted eggplant and potato and topped with a bechamel sauce with just a hint of cheese. So good it spawned an entire History Bite. Our vegetarian alternate is essentially the same as the traditional moussaka, swapping the meat out for a slow cooked blend of beluga and French lentils.
Traditional Greek Salad
We’ve kicked the lettuce to the curb for a traditional Greek salad. The only twist is that we’ve lightly pickled the red onions in a blend of herbs and lemon, taking the bite right out of them. When you combine that with feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, our famous in-house marinated olives, and a toasted garlic dressing you’re in for a real treat.
Let us know if you prefer your salad with olives on the side or not at all in a note on your order. Just keep in mind that these olives brought my olive-hating wife over to the dark side, so you may want to try them.
Greek Cheesecake Crumble
A Greek spin on a classic. Layers of Greek cheesecake filling accented by a crumbled graham crust with a touch of honey and cinnamon. Garnished with a touch of olive oil to blend the flavours together and leave you wanting more.
As usual, we can do a half-vegetarian, half-meat box so everyone gets fed. Just include a note with your preference at checkout.
