I can pinpoint the exact moment I decided that I needed to go to New Orleans. I was sitting on the couch in the basement with my Dad, eating nachos watching the 1973 classic Bond flick Live & Let Die. I was so captivated by the city—there was something about it that drew me in and has stuck with me ever since. I became a little obsessed with it. From the music to the food (which was further cemented by the movie Chef), I always knew that I had to go.
I had a New Orleans trip scheduled for the end of March 2020, but something came up. Not quite sure what it was, but it must have been big. Since then, we’ve been trying to nail down a perfect NOLA meal. It took its time, because you can’t rush perfection.
But it’s finally here. Love Box: New Orleans.
Shrimp Po’ Boy Slider We couldn’t do a New Orleans box without a sample of this iconic sandwich. Wild caught Argentinian shrimp lightly fried in a crispy cornmeal coating seasoned with creole spices. Topped with celeriac remoulade in a French-style bun. It’s a tasty bite of the Big Easy.
New Orleans Gumbo If you’ve never had gumbo before, it’s an almost indescribable experience. The aroma of a pot of gumbo simmering on a stove is the most intoxicating food smell I can think of. A thick and rich soup (that’s almost more of a stew) served over rice. Made from slowly simmering in-house made smoked andouille sausage, chicken, shrimp, and fresh vegetables in a rich stock with the perfect harmony of creole spices.
Celeriac Remoulade This remoulade is so good, we had to give you a side of it in addition to what’s on your sandwich. A cajun twist on the French classic, crunchy and satisfying.
Bananas Foster Upside Down Cake Bananas Foster is a classic New Orleans dessert, made from bananas carmelized with sugar, butter, cinnamon, and rum. Typically served with ice cream, we instead turned ours into an upside down cake. Feel free to add a dollop of ice cream if your sweet tooth gets the better of you.
Crispy Eggplant Po’ Boy (Vegetarian Alternate) What’s the perfect counterpart to a crispy shrimp? Crispy tempura battered eggplant. The same delightful toppings as the meat version with crispy eggplant in place of shrimp.
Red Bean Sausage Gumbo (Vegetarian Alternate) This week we’re making our own vegetarian andouille sausage using red kidney beans to give the vegetarian version the same flavouring that makes the original so great. We’re also amping up the veggies (okra, peppers, celery, onions) and adding some tofu to give it some more depth. What a great week to be meatless, am I right?
Order cutoff is Wednesday May 5th at 3pm with delivery Thursday May 6th between 11am and 5pm.
As usual, we can do a half-vegetarian half-meat box so everyone gets fed. Just include a note with your preference at checkout.
Never hesitate to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to ask us about any dietary restrictions you may have before you order. We love to feed people and always do our best to accommodate.
